I want to play

Sitting here at work, thinking about rare earth elements, partition coefficients and how I have a greater than 100% element composition of rock makes me want to just run straight out of the building and go play. I don't feel any pain in my shoulder now, but I know it would be madness to go throwing a frisbee.

So instead here is a plot from my work,

not so interesting is it. Well it takes a small while to generate, and the black blob in the plot of MgO is just plain wrong. So there you are. Please shoulder, heal quickly.

Ltd Triumph

Well I think they did. Maybe some of the players who went last weekend will disagree?

But we are now the second best team from the UK going to the worlds, as we beat Bristol last weekend. The only team that we have a mental block with is Leeds, who crushed us 17-3, oops. We have two months and a wee bit left to get over our mental problems with teams we think are better than us, and then we will rock at worlds. Check out the photos that Emily took here. Klaus' friend Sol took more photos I hear, but they may take a while to be developed I guess.

I can reach above my head with the help of a wall to walk my fingers up, without the wall it feels a little strange, I don't think my muscles are working quite correctly yet... oh well, ho hum.

Top of the door

I can touch it! The doctor told me that I can throw my sling in the bin and start gently walking my arm up the wall. I walked so high, I could touch the top of the door. So a week of gently flexing my shoulder, then see the physio. After two weeks start strengthening excersizes and be back on the frisbee field in 3 or 4 weeks. Sweet.

X-ray

I got my x-rays in the post today, so I can go to my follow up tomorrow. This makes me happy. I can already do much more with my right arm, it is out of it's sling. This also makes me happy.

Check out this to see some action from the womens ultimate frisbee finals from last weekend. This comes from Flexo's site, check it out.

Miserable

This dislocation is really getting me down. I have my follow up appointment in two days, I hope it goes well and it fills me with some hope of a speedy recovery. Or at least a plan of action, all I do right now is feel crap. Why did I dive for that disc like a mad man, I wonder if I will pussy out of contact once I am playing again. In a way I hope not. But I don't want to do this again.

I get my x-rays in the post tomorrow to take to my follow up appointment, if I can extract the images maybe I will put them up here. Chris recovered from his dislocation in 3 weeks, Jb in one month I hope my recovery will be as swift as theirs...

I can type using my right hand now, and there are no tingling sensations when my shoulder is resting snugly in it's sling.

Dislocation

I dislocated my fucking shoulder at the end of the first game on Saturday. It was the first game off a weekend long tournament, and my first tourney in ages. I decided after one successful lay out (diving) defense, that I would blindly launch myself into another heroic effort in a meaningless game that we were likely to lose regardless. So whilst I was flying through the air with my right arm fully stretched the player from Bristol was thinking as he collided with me at full pace, "What the hell is this guy doing!". Then I tumbled with him, landed facing the opposite direction to which I took off and it did not feel good.

My right arm looked sort of ok, but a bit odd. In fact my shoulder was not quite as it should be, my upper arm bone was some where in front of my shoulder. The pain was not so bad to begin with, as Klaus picked me up and quickly realised it was a dislocation. As I stumbled off the pitch I could feel that it was going to hurt. After about 10 minutes of journeying with Loz and Adam (who was a local) I was in A&E, the pain was by now unbearable and one of the cute nurses asked me to scale it on a level 1 to 10. I said 9, this meant morphine for me! Wonderful stuff, combined with the laughing gas I was soon telling the doctor the rules of frisbee quite calmly. The the pain killers started to ware off, and a second doctor came and they started to explain the procedure of putting my arm back into where it should be. By now I was exhausted and just wished they would do it, she wanted me too keep talking while she drugged me up, I had had enough but explained the whole accident again and promptly passed out.

What an idiot I am. So now I have to recover from my dislocation for the next month, rather than practice with my team. I hope it only takes a month. Today I spent 3 hours trying to book a follow up appointment!

I can't run, cycle, throw, catch, drive or write. On a positive I can also not wash the dishes :)

I hope that in 3 weeks I can run and cycle again, watch this space...

Landis is a twit

I just wrote a long rant about cyclists, athletes and drugs. Then the interweb fucked up and I lost it all. Landis sounds like Pantani, trying to defend his doped pee with stories of testers conspiring against him.

Now I am pissed off and am going to bed. Have that for a blog entry Janet Street-Porter.

Midnight Juggernaugts

Can't wait for this weekend! It will be my first open tour for two years, (open tour for those that don't know is the non-mixed version of ultimate, i.e. means not annoying girls cutting up the guys and their breaks to get the disc). I have been getting my self all excited by watching last years UPA (American) championship series on DVD and off the back of this have ordered the DVD of the mixed, women's and masters series. I think of this purchase as more research on the American opposition at the world club championships than pure viewing pleasure.

Oh, yeah, check out this electro music that has been taking Australia by storm. They are friends of Kate Bush too. I did not realize how hot she was, phew.

Word out.

Fugufish

This is a work out.
